I'm in agreement with a couple of Egyptologists who have commented on the Sphinx and the way it looks.
A documentary the other day was saying how natural erosion and weathering give us the details we see today. The way that rock in surrounding areas has become shaped through wind and sand blasting etc.
But I still hold that the head is much younger than the body and was recarved.
It's commonly held that the head was the only part above the sand before modern times, when excavation revealed the lion body underneath. My theory is that that was the case even in Egyptian major dynasty times. The lions head was reshaped (presumably, as it now seems by Khufus son, not by Khufu himself) .
It was carved from one big block of a limestone type rock, weatherable material....the last documentary I saw stating that the large amount of water looking erosion on the body was all normal air based.
Well I aint wearing that lol
For a start. being lower than the surrounding land, the Sphinx body will have been protected by the sand for a long time and secondly, more importantly, if they are trying to say it's natural wear, then how come the most exposed area, the head, is till in a good condition ?!
Just found this on a website, that factually details Africa and history of the Arab people:
"More alarming is that the sphinx is said to be about 5,000 years old but in fact the statue was carved around 12,500 years ago. The original body and face was that of a lion, instead of the present configuration. Apparently due to torrential precipitation for many decades much of the statues were eroded. The remarkable Egyptians re-carved the head to that of the Sphinx."

Have a look at a pic, the body is obviously belonging to something much bigger than the head...the proportions are way off.
Also, much of the lower area has been rebuilt in recent times by preservationists...can it really be just as old as the head ?
Here it is in the 19th century:
And here's a current shot:

As far as can be determined, the original head was resculpted by the Egyptians...a few thousand years later.
The Giza plateau itself may well have held significance for a society much earlier...the choice of building the pyramids there being a case not just of it being flat !
If you think about it, if the head would normally be the only thing above sand level, the Egyptians would be staring at a lump of part weathered rock, in the shape of a lions head. So they went ahead and rechiselled it. _________________
